Our program this evening was an "open mike".  The question asked of the members was : Is competition a motivating factor for your membership in TOPS. While some members felt that competing for best loser spot each week did help to keep them on track, others voiced different reasons for their attendance at meetings. Some liked the nutrition info discussed while others felt the weigh-in motivated them to maintain their weight.
We also had a report from Pat and Sandy on the Kops luncheon which both attended.

A WINNING COUPLE

March's Best                         This week's
 Loser                                Best loser
Shelley                              Michael

Our meeting this week discussed the importance of keeping a food diary also known as journaling.  Many of us would rather jump off a bridge than write down every morsel of food we consume. However, if we bite the bullet (zero calories) and actually record our daily intake of food, we generally find many of the trouble spots in our food plan. Some problem areas are portion size, carb laden meals and/or abundant snacking . We can pinpoint problem times, i.e. after dinner snacking or office breaks.  Journaling can be an effective tool to help us attain our goal weight.

Other topics included the final list for SRD and awards for the month of March

Best Loser

Janet K

Wise: Stick to the plan
Unwise: Don't forget your water

The program this evening anticipated the coming Easter weekend and the likelihood of our members either hosting or attending a celebratory Easter meal.  Sandy reminded us to watch portions and make solid healthy choices in order to maintain our weight loss objectives.

And a special treat, Marcia donated a potted tulip.  We held a raffle and were able to add some monies to our treasury. Janet picked the winning number, making her the best loser and best winner this evening.  Since the tulips were still buds at the meeting, we needed to wait until Easter Sunday to dertermine the actual color. The 4 buds did open on schedule and 2 bloomed a lovely pale pink and the other 2 were a purple and pink variegated flower.

How those in the know eat on the go. Suggestions included making larger batches of food on "free days" to have available for the "busy days".  Also if eating out, research the menu to plan your meal to fit your calorie budget.
